PIP · FOOD & INGREDIENT SCANNER

Privacy & Terms

Last updated: 20 October 2026

Privacy policy

Pip helps you understand what's in your food. We keep things simple: no account, no sign-up, and your food history stays on your phone.

In short: we don't ask for your name, email or location, and we never sell your data.

What stays on your phone

This is saved only on your device. If you delete the app, it's gone. You can also clear your history anytime in the app.

Your camera

Pip uses your camera only to read barcodes. We don't take, save or upload photos or video.

Looking up products

When you scan or search, the barcode or search words are sent to Open Food Facts, a free public food database, to get the product details. Nothing that identifies you is sent with it.

Helping us improve the app

We use Google Firebase to see how the app is used and to fix crashes. This includes things like which screens are opened, roughly how many products are scanned, your device type and app version, and crash reports. It doesn't include your name, the products you scan or your check-in answers. You can read how Google handles this data in Google's privacy policy.

Children

Pip is meant for a general audience and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

If we update this policy, we'll change the date at the top of this page.

Terms of use

By using Pip, you agree to these terms. They're short, we promise.

Not medical advice

Pip gives you general information to help compare foods. Scores and tips are estimates, not medical or nutrition advice. Always read the actual label, and talk to a doctor or dietitian about allergies, health conditions or special diets.

About the product information

Product details come from Open Food Facts, a database built by volunteers. It's usually helpful but can be missing, out of date or wrong. Recipes also change, so always check the real package, especially for allergens.

Using the app

Pip Pro

Some extra features may be offered later as an optional paid upgrade. If so, the price and what's included will be shown clearly before you pay, and payments will be handled by the App Store or Google Play.

Our responsibility

As far as the law allows, we aren't responsible for decisions you make based on the app, or for any loss that comes from using it.

Changes

We may update these terms now and then. If you keep using Pip after a change, you accept the new terms.
